Dr. Mills has lived in Fairhope since 1987. A native of Birmingham, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. While in dental school at the University of Alabama, he worked as a respiratory therapist in a local hospital, as well as the oral surgery clinic at the school. After receiving a DMD degree in 1981, he immediately moved his family to Mobile and opened his private practice. Twenty-six years later, he retired from his Mobile practice and opened a new general and cosmetic dental practice in Daphne.
Dr. Mills has completed hundreds of hours of advanced training at centers all over the country, including Baylor University, Louisiana State University, Medical College of Georgia, Nash Institute, Scottsdale Learning Center, San Antonio Institute of Dentistry, Midwest Institute of CAD/CAM Dentistry, and others. Advanced training has included short term adult orthodontics, surgical and restorative implant dentistry, periodontal plastic surgery, cosmetic restorative materials, digital imaging, laser dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, periodontal cosmetic dentistry, CEREC, and preventive dentistry.
Dr. Mills has also been an active member in numerous study clubs. He is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Alabama Dental Association, and the Mobile and Baldwin County Dental Association. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry where he participates in the Give Back a Smile charitable foundation. In this program, volunteer member dentists give their time and resources to restore broken and damaged smiles for victims of domestic violence.
Dr Mills is currently enrolled in the AAID “Maxi program” at the Georgia Health Sciences University. He is training with some of the worlds premier implantologist in the latest techniques of periodontal microsurgery, implant surgery, bone grafting, 3D imaging (cat scan). Although this training is very expensive and time consuming it will allow Dr. mills to provide a level of care previously unavailable.
Tere, Dr. Mills’ wife of 35 years, has managed the practice for the past 25 years. She is a registered nurse who was in charge of infection control at a large hospital in Birmingham prior to moving to Mobile. The couple has two sons who currently live in Fairhope. Dr. Mills and Tere are active members of the Fairhope United Methodist Church, Fairhope Yacht Club, and Rock Creek Country Club. Tere spends most weekends at FYC sailing, socializing, and working on her boat. Dr. Mills can usually be found either on the golf course or en route.
